Today marked the first official day of practice for my old high school Cross Country team, and it was nice to once again have the opportunity to return for a second year as a part of the coaching staff. It's funny to think that 6 years ago, it took one 90 degree, mid-August day and a guy with a mustache, short shorts, and a contagious smile to change my entire life. I'd never been a fantastically gifted athlete, but the day I met my coaches, Scott and Judy Chamberlin was probably one of the best things that could have ever happened to me. I was nervous and worried (as any freshman would be), but that first high-five I got from Scott would be the stepping stone to many, many more in the future. I don't think I ever imagined that Cross Country would take me this far, and yet here I am, as part of the coaching staff of Wheat Ridge High School, working alongside two of the greatest human beings that have ever walked the planet...I mean universe...well, ever. Besides, on top of it all, I never dreamed of ever becoming a collegiate athlete, but I'm gearing up for my second season as a University of Denver Pioneer, and getting the chance to race alongside some of the best Cross Country runners in the nation.

Run, Don't Walk.
I bought new running shoes three weeks ago, and they already have a tear in them... maybe it's because I run too fast. Yeah, that's probably it.

This whole coaching thing has set my future in stone... I know that teaching is the career for me. I don't think you should ever go searching for a passion... it has to find you. Sometimes the greatest things turn up in the most unexpected places. If I can inspire half of the people that Scott and Judy have in their lives, I'll be proud of myself.
